About Us

As I Am is a non-profit, 501(C) 3 organization developed in 1998. The program provides an open forum for young women ages 11-17 years old. Our purpose is to assist young women in becoming more positive and productive by engaging them in activities that help develop healthy self-esteem. As I Am offers open group discussions, interactive activities, speakers, and traveling. During our group sessions we strive to build solid, positive relationships among our young women, provide helpful information, & heighten their awareness.Mission StatementAs I Am is a Personal Development program that provides an open forum for at-risk young adults. Our Mission is to inspire young women to become more productive through education and a healthy self-esteem. As I Am is designed to challenge each participant to grow independently and effectively.Philosophy“Knowing and loving who you are, is the first step to believing who you can be.”

Membership

Travel Club
open to members and non members.members receive assitance from fundraisers.Parents need not accompany but are encouraged to do so. Non-members and adults are required to pay full amount.Each destination has cultural significance.Travel occurs in May or June, destination s are determined by organization

Book Club
The book club meets monthly.An AS I AM volunteer will choose age appropriate books & facilitate the discussions with the assistance of a member.Selections relate to topics covered in the AS I AM Girls Club Training Course.Participants converse in person and online.Snacks are provided.

Group Sessions
Members meet weekly to discuss age appropriate dialogue from Activity Book.Speakers are invited to share personal experiences.Monthly activities based on weekly discussions.

Pen Pals
The Pen-Pal Program is open to members and non-members.Fee included with membershipThe program targets girls ages 11-17.Participants are paired with an approved female college students.College students are juniors and seniors with at least a 2.7 grade point average.As I Am participants and college students correspond by mail, email, or social networks.Two (possible) visits are made per year (local and on campus).Past collaborations with: Central State University, Wilberforce University, Bowling Green University, Cleveland State University, and Ursuline College.

Cost/Fees

Most families are covered by our donations and grants. However we do offer a sliding fee scale for families who do not meet the income guidelines.

*All families are responsible for a $10 administrative fee per session due at time of service.

Studies indicate that one of the main reasons for children not being able to live up to their potentials is because of lack of sufficient motivation from parent, who are not able to connect emotionally with their children due to busy professional life. Fortunately, parents today have options in finding resources for their children who may have low self esteem problems focusing on their future, or just need simple mentor/guidance.Mentor MeTeen Coaching is especially designed to inculcate essential life values in teens, improve their self esteem, build confidence and become a successful person.
